BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Truett-McConnell's (Ga.) Lukas Storey scored the eventual game-winner in the 85th minute, lifting the Bears to a 3-2 victory over the Union College men's soccer team in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at Burch/Nau Field.

With the loss, Union fell to 2-2-1, 0-1 in the AAC, while Truett-McConnell improved to 2-1, 1-0 in the AAC with the victory.

In the first half, the Bulldogs got off to a great start, scoring a goal in the opening seconds of play. Thirteen seconds in, Joe Butcher played a cross from Andre Scott at the 15 yard line, and knocked home a goal, giving Union the early 1-0 lead.

The Bears, however, came back, scoring the next two goals of the contest to take a 2-1 lead into intermission.

In the second half, Union tied things up in the 50th minute, as Jonathan Watson scored off a deflected save in the box to make the score 2-2. It remained that way until the 85th minute, when after a wild scramble in front of the net off a corner kick, Storey scored the game-winner.

Union had one last chance in the last minute, nearly playing a free kick in the box into a goal. But, TMC turned away the Bulldogs once again, clinching the conference win for the road side.

Overall, Union outshot Truett-McConnell 15-8 in the contest, and held a 4-2 edge on corner kicks.

By the Numbers

  • Butcher's goal seconds into the match was the first of the season for the senior, and the third goal of his career. Scott, a freshman, picked up his first career assist on the goal.
  • Watson scored his third goal of the season in the contest, and has now scored a goal in three of the five matches the Bulldogs have played on the year. The goal was also the 24th of Watson's three year career at Union.
  • Truett-McConnell played in their first AAC match against the Bulldogs. The Bears joined the league officially earlier this summer.
