RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Rio Grande's Kasey Crow scored the game-winner with eight minutes to go in regulation, lifting the Red Storm to 2-1 win over the Union College women's soccer team on Friday evening in NAIA action. The match was part of the Marge Evans Classic.
With the loss, Union fell to 0-2-0 overall, while Rio Grande improved to 2-1-0 with the victory.
In the first half, Union was first to strike, taking an early 1-0 lead on an Aline Dalmedico goal in the sixth minute. The goal for Dalmedico was her fourth of the season. Senior Danielle Gilbert made an assist on the goal, her second of the young season.
However, Rio Grande struck back in the 23rd minute, as Courtney Young scored, unassisted, knotting the match up at one-all heading into the half.
In the second half, both teams missed on scoring opportunities, as things remained tied with under 10 minutes to go in regulation. The Red Storm finally cashed in on a opportunity in the 81st minute, as Crow scored the game-winner on a free kick, giving URO the tough victory at home.
Overall, Rio Grande outshot Union 16-12 in the match, while both teams took two corners, each on the night. In net, Lady Bulldogs goalie Kendall Ellington had a fine match in a losing effort, stopping six shots in 90 minutes of play.

- Dalmedico has now scored 16 goals on her career, increasing her career point total to 36.
- Gilbert's assist was the third of her career, and second in as many matches. Going into the year, Gilbert had recorded just one assist 39 matches played.
- Rio Grande avenged a tough loss to Union last season with the victory, as the Lady Bulldogs scored a late second half goal to defeat the Red Storm, 1-0 in their 2012 season opener on Sept. 1.
The Lady Bulldogs look to bounce back on Saturday, as they close out the Marge Evans Classic with a match against Mount Vernon Nazarene. Things get underway at 3 p.m.
