GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Union volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Rumpke Invitational in Georgetown, Ky., losing 3-2 to IU Southeast and 3-0 to Asbury (Ky.) on Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 1-2 on the season.
Versus IU Southeast, Union suffered a hard-fought battle by the scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-10. Paige Moore led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 kills with a .302 hitting percentage, while Caity Merritt had 14 kills. Brooke Hill helped out with five kills and four blocks, Karina Ramos recorded eight kills, and Heather Fields chipped in 19 assists and 14 digs. Chandler Gray served up 28 assists. Defensively, Summer Manning had 27 digs, Ana Calaza 24 and Linsey Ellis 14.
Against Asbury, Union dropped the first two sets by the scores of 25-22 and 25-21. The Lady Eagles cruised in the third frame to win 25-13 and complete the sweep. Merritt and Ramos led Union at the net with eight kills apiece, while Moore added seven. Fields had a solid all-around game with 16 assists, eight digs and two service aces, and Gray recorded 11 helpers. Calaza and Manning made 17 and 14 digs, respectively, while Hill registered two blocks.

Union returns to action Saturday at 9:30 a.m. to face Bethel (Tenn.) during the final day of the Rumpke Invitational. Union will close out play at 11:30 a.m. when it faces Trinity Christian (Ill.).
