BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College men's head's soccer coach Tyler Brock has announced that Alex Smith, a forward from Montego Bay, Jamaica, has signed his National Letter of Intent, and will join the Bulldog program in time for 2013 preseason practices slated to start later this summer.

Smith will transfer into the Union program from Maine at Fort Kent in Kent, Maine. There, Smith suffered an ACL injury, forcing him to redshirt for the 2012 season. He will enter the Union program as a redshirt freshman and have four years of eligibility.

"Alex is a explosive player that can bring pace to a game, and he knows how to create scoring opportunities," said Brock. "He is very creative and his dynamic play will enable him compete right away. We are very excited to have Alex join our program here at Union, and are excited to him grow and develop over the next 4 years."

In his native Jamaica, Smith prepped at Anchovy High School/Cornwall College. In the St. James Senior League, he was named most valuable player after leading the league in goals scored with 13, while recording six assists. Smith led his team to both Division One and Division Two Championships, as well.

Smith, the son of Colleen and Irving Smith, plans to major in business administration at Union College.

The Bulldogs kick-off their 2013 season on Aug. 30, hosting Emmanuel (Ga.) as part of the 2013 Thomas Trammel Memorial Classic.
