BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College men's soccer coach Tyler Brock has announced that Mauricio Perini has signed his National Letter of Intent, and will join the Bulldog program in a few months, just in time for 2013 preseason camp. 

Perini, a native of Resende, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, plans to play in the midfield for the Bulldogs when he joins the team in August. In his native Brazil, Perini prepped at Escola Apolinário Alves dos Santos High School, and clubbed with Pumas Brasil.

"Mauricio is what we like to call a "box to box" center midfielder," said Brock. "He prides himself on getting forward in the attack but also does a great job defending and tackling. He has excellent vision and very composed on the ball He knows when to go forward and when to possess and playing in the midfield it is very important to be able to control the flow of play and he does a great job of that

"We expect big things from Mauricio and our staff is very excited to have him joining our program."

Mauricio, the son of Marcos Antonio and Simone do Nascimento Perini, plans to major in business administration at Union College. 

The Bulldogs kick-off their 2013 season on Aug. 30, hosting Emmanuel (Ga.) as part of the 2013 Thomas Trammel Memorial Classic.
