KINGSPORT, Tenn. - A wild run through the 2013 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament ended for the Union College softball team Thursday evening, as the Lady Bulldogs bowed out after a 6-3 loss to top-seed and No. 8 Reinhardt (Ga.). UC advanced earlier in the day with a 10-9, eight inning win over Tennessee Wesleyan, knocking TWC out of the tournament.

With the results, the Lady Bulldogs ended the 2013 season with a 15-30 overall record.

UC 10, TWC 9 (in Eight Innings)

In their first game of the afternoon, Union jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, as they once again used the long ball to get the lead. In the first, Cameron Campbell went deep with a two-run homer, to make it 2-0, then in the third, Ashley Wojnowski hit her second home run in as many days, this time a three-run shot to give UC the five-run advantage.

TWC got the lead down to 5-3 after a three-run outburst in the third, but UC came right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-3 lead heading into the fifth inning. Over the next two frames, however, TWC chipped away a the lead, scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to trail 8-5 entering the top of the seventh.

For the second straight day, a competitor pulled off a big comeback on the Lady Bulldogs in the seventh, as TWC tied the game with two outs on a Brooke Ward two-run home run. In the top of the eighth, TWC took their first lead of the day with a lone run, and needed just three outs in the bottom of the frame to move on and eliminate Union.

However, in the bottom of the eighth, Union struck. Alissa Hampton started the inning off with a hit by pitch, then after moving up to second on a sacrifice bunt, TWC made a critical error, dropping an Amanda Cupp pop up that put players on first and second. Wojnowski then had an infield single to load the bases with one out.

After a pop-out recorded the second out, it set the stage for Campbell to play the hero for the second time in 24 hours, and the sophomore came through once again. Campbell laced a two RBI, walk-off single into deep left field off of TWC pitcher Brittany Kilduff, scoring Hampton from third and Cupp from second to win the ball game in extras.

Overall, Campbell was dominant in the game, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored. Campbell hit her third home run of the AAC Tournament in the win, as well. Wojnowski accounted for UC's other RBI in the game, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored. In the circle, Gianna Schauer (5-14) earned the win.

RU 6, UC 3

In the second game of the day, the Lady Bulldogs were eliminated in a three-run loss to the Lady Eagles, as RU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after four innings, and never looked back.

UC mounted a bit of a comeback in the last two innings, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth, and a run in the seventh, but it was too little, too late, as RU starter Maddie Monroe (23-1) earned the win after allowing just five hits.

Overall, Autumn Greenwell hit the final home run of the tournament for the Lady Bulldogs in the seventh, which was the eighth of the week for UC. Meanwhile, Rachel Cogdill was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
