ST. CATHARINE, Ky. - Union had its chances but came up short as host St. Catharine (Ky.) recorded the 7-4 victory.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 24-17 overall. The Patriots are now 32-14 on the year.

Union left nine men on base, leaving at last one runner on base in all but two innings.

Down 2-0 in the second, Miguel Mendez (Lansing, Mich.) belted a two-run home run to even the ledger. The four-bagger is Mendez' first of the season. St. Catharine scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but Union tied it up in the top of the third on a Zach Dillman (Cincinnati, Ohio) run-scoring single. Yet, the Patriots scored in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good en route to the 7-4 decision.

The Bulldogs were held to only eight bases hits with no one having more than one.

Jordan Mynear (Carlisle, Ky.) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, in 2 1/3 innings of work. He is now 0-1 on the year. Ryan Rizzi got the win for St. Catharine to improve to 5-2, while Matt Wagner collected his fourth save on the year.

Union returns home Saturday and Sunday to play host to Milligan (Tenn.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. Saturday's doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
