PINEVILLE, Ky. - The Union golf teams posted strong showings at the Bulldog/Appalachian Athletic Conference Spring Invitational on Monday. The Bulldogs sit in first place, while the Lady Bulldogs are third.

The tournament resumes Tuesday at Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville, Ky.

In the men's tournament, Union compiled a team score of 296 for a nine-stroke lead over second-place St. Andrews (N.C.). Reinhardt (Ga.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) are tied for third at 308, while Virginia Intermont is fifth at 311. There are 11 teams competing.

Individually, Stuart Balcombe of Cumberlands and Matthew Latham of St. Andrews are tied for top honors at an even-par 72, while Union's Garrett Bradley (Jellico, Tenn.) and Thomas Scott (Musselburgh, Scotland) along with Reinhardt's Ben Dulin are knotted at 73 for third.

In the women's field, the Lady Bulldogs fired a 350 to put them third behind SCAD Atlanta (Ga.) and Tennessee Wesleyan. SCAD Atlanta leads the nine-team field with 324, while Tennessee Wesleyan sits at 334. Bryan (Tenn.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) are tied for fourth at 355.

Ashley Madden of SCAD Atlanta leads the field with a 78. Union's top golfer is Synder Smith (Greensburg, Ky.), who is tied in sixth with an 82.
