DAYTON, Tenn. - Bryan's Tyler Latham blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Lions past visiting Union 8-4 Saturday in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

The loss drops Union to 20-15 overall and 7-8 in league play, while Bryan improves to 18-16 overall and 6-9 in the AAC.

Zach Dillman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Nelson Price (Burkesville, Ky.) led the Bulldogs at the plate as both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

For Bryan, Latham finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs, while Kevin Layne went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Kevin Carr picked up his first win of the season as he is now 1-0 on the year, allowing no runs on four hits and two walks with a strikeout in three innings of work. Jared Tomany (Bryant, Wis.) suffered the loss, dropping him to 0-2. Starter Drew Hillard (Lexington, Ky.) pitched well in getting a no decision, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings.

Turning Point
Tied at 4-4 in the ninth, Union put two runners on in the top of the frame with no outs. However, Carr got the Lions out of the jam with a fielder's choice and a double play.

In the bottom of the ninth, a walk and back-to-back Bulldog errors loaded the bases with no outs for Bryan. Latham then sent a 2-1 offering over the wall for a game-winning, grand slam.

By the Numbers

  • Price and Gabby Juarbe (San Juan, P.R.) each extended their hit streaks to six games.
  • With the two RBIs, Price now has driven in 21 on the year to give Union four players with 20 or more RBIs. Tyler Brake (Burlington, Ky.) leads the way with 28.
  • Price is also the first Bulldog with 40 hits on the year as he now has 41.
  • LaVance Anderson (Bowling Green, Ky.) continues to find his way home as he scored his team-leading 34th run on the year. He only has 32 hits.
