BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College softball team dropped two games to Milligan (Tenn.) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader at Union Field Friday. The visiting Buffaloes took game one, 4-1, then completed the sweep with a 11-2 victory in six innings in game two.

With the pair of losses, UC fell to 10-16 overall, 2-8 in the AAC, while Milligan improved to 7-14, 6-4 in the AAC with the victories.

Game One

In game one, the Lady Bulldogs got off to a fast start, as leadoff batter Ashley Wojnowski hit a single, then scored on a three-base error by a Milligan outfielder to give UC a 1-0 lead early.

The Lady Bulldogs held on to that 1-0 lead heading into the fourth inning, but in the top of that frame, Milligan took the lead for good after scoring a pair of runs on a two-RBI triple with two outs. In the seventh, the Buffaloes added two more runs on a two-run homer, which was more than enough run support for MC starter Chancli Connaster to work with the rest of the way.

In all, Connaster was dominant in the game, stymying the UC lineup all game, allowing just three hits, while striking out nine to earn the win (2-8). UC's Gianna Schauer (3-8) took the loss in the first game.

Game One - Turning Point

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Milligan's Mackenzie Lilley came to the plate with runners on second and third. Lilley came through in the big spot, smacking a two-RBI triple to the left center field gap, giving MC a 2-1 lead.

Game Two

In game two, UC once again jumped out to an early lead, only to see Milligan's bat's come alive, as the Buffaloes smashed 10 hits in the nine-run, six-inning victory.

In the bottom of the second, Union took an early 1-0 lead after Amanda Cupp knocked home pinch runner Stefanie Edgell from third on a ground out. But, in the top of the third, Milligan came back, scoring four runs to take a 4-1 lead.

UC cut the MC lead to 4-2 in the bottom half of the third on a Jamie Cyrus RBI single, but it was all Milligan the rest of the way, as the Buffaloes scored three in the fourth, and two runs in both the fifth and sixth go up nine. Union went down in order in the bottom half of the sixth, as Milligan wrapped up the sweep.

Overall in game two, Cyrus was the only UC player to have a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. In the pitching circle, Connaster came into the game in the second inning, and earned the win in relief (3-8). Schauer started the second game for UC, and was the loser (3-9).
