BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - For the second time this season, the Union baseball team rallied from behind to pull out the victory, defeating visiting Asbury (Ky.) 10-9 on Tuesday.

The teams were to play a doubleheader and began the second game. However, the umpires called the game in the bottom of the fourth with Union leading 5-3 due to darkness. The game will not be made up or continued as neither team will get a win or a loss and the statistics from the contest will not count.

With the win, Union is off to a 4-1 start to the young season, while Asbury is 1-8 overall.

Tyler Brake (Burlington, Ky.) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a RBI, and Gabby Juarbe (San Juan, Puerto Rico) was 2-for-3 with a double.

Nelson Price (Burkesville, Ky.) started the game in left field but came in and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to get the win. He allowed no runs on two hits and one walk and had two strikeouts in picking up his first win of the year.

Josh Bertke suffered the loss for the Eagles.

Turning Point
Union opened the game with a four-run first, but Asbury scored four in the second and three in the fourth for a 7-4 advantage. The Bulldogs cut it to one in the fifth, but the Eagles scored twice in the top of the sixth for a 9-6 advantage.

In the bottom of the sixth, Union loaded the bases with one out when Vance Sullivan (Verona, Ky.) ripped a three-run double to even the score at 9-9.

Ben Hartley (Lexington, Ky.) led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk. A stolen base and a passed ball moved Hartley over to third, and LaVance Anderson (Bowling Green, Ky.) singled through a hole on the left-side of the infield to drive in the winning run.

  • Union collected seven more bases on balls to give it 51 on the year. As a team, Union has a .490 on-base percentage.
  • Sullivan is 1-for-9 at the plate on the season but has five RBIs to his credit.
  • The 12 hits are the most for the Bulldogs this season. It is also the first time Union has double-digit hits.
