BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College women's swimming head coach Rafael Forti has announced that Eliska Melicharova has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Bulldog program this fall. 

Melicharova, a native of Upice, Czech Republic, plans to swim short distance backstroke and freestyle events for the Lady Bulldogs.

"I am happy Eliska has decided to continue her studies at Union College," said Forti. "She has a good background in competitive swimming, and I know she will continue to have success here at UC."

In her native Czech Republic, Melicharova has swam competitively for the last 11 years. She has prepped at Gymnazium Jiri-Guth Jarkovsky in her homeland, while also being an active member of the USK Praha swim club. In all, Melicharova has finished first in an event at the countries Junior Championships, and finished third in seven other events throughout the course of her career.

Eliska, the daughter of Ivana & Jan Melicharova, plans to major in biology and chemistry at Union College.

The Union College women's swimming team return to action on Thursday, as UC hosts the 2013 Appalachian Swimming & Diving Conference Championships at the Stivers Aquatic Center. The event runs through Saturday evening.
