BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - A three-run eighth inning secured Union's third win of the season as the Bulldogs defeated visiting Davenport (Mich.) 6-1 on Saturday.

Union is now 3-0 on the young season, while Davenport falls to 0-2.

The Bulldogs registered a season-high eight hits while limiting the Panthers to four for the second game in a row.

Much like Friday's contest, Union was the beneficiary of a high number of bases on balls as the Davenport pitching staff walked eight. The Panther staff also hit two batters.

Davenport also committed four errors, resulting in two unearned run.

Vance Sullivan (Verona, Ky.) collected the win on the mound for Union, tossing three innings of shutout ball. He allowed two hits and one walk while fanning two. Jared Tomany  (Bryant, Wis.) notched the save, walking one and striking out another in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Turning Point
Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Union had the bases loaded with two outs when Nelson Price (Burkesville, Ky.) singled in J.D. Burell (Amanda, Ohio) for a 2-1 advantage.

The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the seventh before exploding for three in the eighth. Manny Avecedo (Orlando, Fla.) lined a run-scoring double, which was followed by a two-run single from Burrell to make the final 6-1.

By the Numbers

  • Tyler Brake (Burlington, Ky.) was the lone Bulldog with multiple hits as he went 2-for-4 on the day.
  • Gabby Juarbe  (San Juan, P.R.) belted a solo home run in the first inning to jumpstart Union's scoring. He had only one home run in 2012.
  • Union has 17 stolen bases in 19 attempts this season in only three games. Miguel Mendez (Lansing, Mich.) is 7-for-7 on the year, while LaVance Anderson (Bowling Green, Ky.) is 5-for-5. Anderson had two of Union's five stolen bases in today's game.
  • Union only has three extra-base hits on the year with two - a double and a home run - coming today. The other extra-base hit is a home run.
