ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Tarik Smith of Union is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

This is the first time this season and in his career Smith has received this honor.

The junior guard from Tempe, Ariz., led the Bulldogs in their final game before Christmas break last Tuesday, scoring 27 points in an 85-66 win at UC-Clermont while also recording five assists and four steals in victory. This was 10th double-digit scoring game of season, and sixth time scoring 20 or more points in a contest for Smith.

For the year, Smith leads Union and is third in the conference in scoring averaging 19.08 points a game.

The Bulldogs are 7-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The next AAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week will be named on Jan. 7.

Union returns to action on Dec. 28 when it plays NCAA Division I Liberty (Va.) in an exhibition game.
