ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Union College softball team was picked to finish fifth in the 2013 Appalachian Athletic Conference's Preseason Coaches Poll, the league announced Wednesday.

At the top of the poll is two-time defending AAC Tournament Champion Reinhardt (Ga.), who received five of the 10 first-place votes for a total of 74 points. Tennessee Wesleyan collected two first-place votes and 69 points to come in second, while Milligan got one first-place vote and 64 points to land in third.

Virginia Intermont picked up the remaining two first-place votes as it earned 60 points for fourth. UC rounds out the top five with 46 total points. Bryan is sixth with 43 points, Columbia is seventh at 35 points, Point is eight at 28 points, Montreat ninth with 18 points, and St. Andrews is 10th with 13 points.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the 2012 season with a 27-17 overall mark, 10-8 in the AAC. They enter the 2013 season led by first year head coach Ashton Strode, who was hired in June after being an assistant at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. the last two seasons.
