RICHMOND, Ind. - IU-East's Marcus Issac scored a game-high 26 points, as the host Red Wolves pulled away from the Union College men's basketball team, 107-100, in NAIA action on Tuesday night.

With the loss, UC fell to 4-2 on the year, while IU-East, ranked 22nd in the NAIA Division II Coaches Poll, moved to 3-1 with the victory.

At halftime, Union held a 55-53 lead over IU-East after a wild first half that saw the lead swing back and forth on several occasions. The Bulldogs did, however, go up six (55-49) after a James Strange three with two minutes left. IU-East battled in the final two minutes, going on 4-0 run to end the period.

To start the second period, IU-East immediately tied the game up out of the break at 55-all. The Bulldogs, however, battled back, and went up by five points (70-65) with 13 minutes left after a Derrick Thorpe three-pointer. Here, IU-East went on a run, tying the game up at 72 moments later 

With 10:41 left, Sergio Gonzalez made a jumper to give UC a 79-78 lead. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, this would be the last time all night they would have the lead, as IU-East took the lead back (81-79) with 9:46 left after a three. 

The Bulldogs continued to fight, and with 7:58 left, IU-East held a slim 87-86 lead. Here, the Red Wolves went on a back-breaking 9-2 run over a minute and a half to go up 96-88 with six minutes left. From there, IU-East hung on to the lead, as the closest UC came to it the rest of the night was five points.

Overall, UC was led once again by Gonzalez, who had 24 points. Gonzalez also snatched eight rebounds, had four assists, three blocks, and a steal.

Other double digit scorers for the Bulldogs included Archie Adams, who scored 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor, Matthew Thomas, who had 15 points, and Josh Smith, who scored 14. Adams also pulled down eight ‘boards, while Thomas led the team dishing out five assists.

Issac led IU-East in the win, recording a double-double with 26 points and 11 ‘boards. In all, IU-East had six players score in double-figures in the home victory.

Union returns to action on Saturday, traveling to The Citadel (S.C.) for an exhibition contest against the NCAA Division One opponent. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
