BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union guard Sergio Gonzalez scored a game-high 26 points, as the Bulldogs never trailed in an 89-75 victory over Pensacola Christian (Fla.) on Saturday. The game was  part of the 2012 Bulldogs Classic held at Robsion Arena.

With the victory, UC moved to 2-1 on the year, while PCC fell to 0-2 with the loss.

In the first half, Union opened up a 13-point lead (18-5) in the first six minutes game, capped by a Derrick Thorpe three-pointer. The Bulldogs never looked back the rest of the half, as the closest Pensacola Christian came to the Bulldog lead was five (21-16). 

UC eventually opened up their biggest lead of the game with 1:32 left in the half at 18 points (42-24) after a Tarik Smith jumper. Pensacola Christian cut into the lead a bit before the half going on a 6-0 run, but Union still held a big lead at 42-30 at intermission.

In the second half, it was more of the same, as Union held a double-digit lead for the majority of the period. The closest Pensacola Christian got to the Bulldog lead the rest of the night was at seven points, (60-53 with 12:59 left), as the Bulldogs coasted down the stretch to record their second straight win. 

Overall, Gonzalez shot 9-of-13 from the floor in the game to get to his 26 point total. He also pulled down eight rebounds, had three assists, and made three steals on the night, as well.

Other double digit scorers on the night for Union included Smith, who notched a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and Thorpe, who finished with 18 points.

Pensacola Christian was led in the loss by Adam Pahlsson, who had 16 points.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, hosting West Virginia-Parkersburg at Robsion Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
