BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - A goal by Union College's Jessica Frisby in the 22nd minute proved to the difference, as the fourth-seeded Lady Bulldogs got past fifth-seeded Reinhardt (Ga.), 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament at Burch/Nau Field on Saturday.

With the victory, Union improved to 11-5-1 on the year, and now move on to the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. With the loss, Reinhardt ends their 2012 season with a 7-10-1 record.

In the first half, Union came out and controlled Reinhardt from the opening kick, eventually outshooting the Lady Eagles 12-4 in the first 45 minutes. Still, the Lady Bulldogs were having a hard time in finishing opportunities, as Reinhardt goalie Kaleigh Clarke stopped four shots in the period.

She did, however, let one shot go past, and that shot was Frisby's in the 22nd minute.

Frisby, who had just come into the match off the bench moments earlier, received a pass from Helen Weber about 15 yards out and fired a shot at the goal. The high arching strike was too high for Clarke to handle, as the ball dropped right over her head and into the net, giving UC the early one-goal lead.

The goal for Frisby was, ironically, her first of the 2012 season, and the first of her two-year UC career. For Weber, the assist was her fifth of the season.

In the second half, the Union defense cranked up the intensity, as Reinhardt failed to put a shot on net in the first 20 minutes of action. The Lady Eagles did have a few opportunities at net as the match wore on, but each time, UC goalie Stephanie Burton made a save, stopping three shots in the half.

With that, the Lady Bulldogs hung on over the final five minutes, earning a 1-0 victory, and a date in the AAC Semifinals next week.

Overall, UC outshot Reinhardt 20-9 in the match, while both squads took a corner kick, apiece. Burton recorded the shutout, making four saves in 90 minutes of work. Clarke was also great in net for Reinhardt, keeping the Lady Eagles in it with nine total saves on the afternoon.

Union now awaits as to who, and where they will play the Semifinals of the 2012 AAC Tournament on Thursday. Check with throughout the weekend for more updates as they become available.
