BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Moving from goalie and into the forward position, Union College women's soccer player Stephanie Burton scored three times, pacing the Lady Bulldogs to a dominating 8-0 win over Midway (Ky.) on Wednesday at Burch/Nau Field in the squad's regular season finale.

The match was also the programs annual Senior Day, in which four Lady Bulldog senior student-athletes were honored: Burton, Nichole Grindler, Jenn Sckirl, and Casey Camargo.

With the victory, Union ends the regular year with a 10-5-1 record, while Midway fell to 5-9-1 with the defeat. 

In the first period, Burton started the Lady Bulldogs off on the right foot, scoring her first goal of the afternoon in the 10th minute to make it 1-0, Union. The goal was assisted by Aline Dalmedico, who would go on to assist Burton's second goal. 

Burton's second score came in the 32nd minute off another Dalmedico cross, making it 2-0, Lady Bulldogs. The third, and final goal, of the period scored by Union came in the 40th minute, when Dalmedico got in on the act scoring wise, netting her 11th  goal of the season off a Charity Wilms assist. The 3-0 Lady Bulldog lead held over the final five minutes of the period, and into intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs put the match away, exploding for five goals in the final 45 minutes of play.

Senior Sckirl scored her first goal of the season in the 48th minute off a Burton assist to make it 4-0, Union. This led to Burton finishing off the hat trick in the 52nd minute on an impressive unassisted goal to make it 5-0. Sckirl then added another score in the 69th minute, her second of the day, to make it 6-0. Sckirl's second score was also, unassisted. 

The final two goals were first's for the season for their respective scorers. In the 73rd minute, Wilms scored, unassisted, to make it 7-0. The final score came in the 88th minute, as Danielle Gilbert scored from almost 25 yards out, putting a shot over the top of the goalie and into the net, giving UC an eight-goal advantage.

Overall, Union outshot Midway 17-7 in the contest, and held a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks. Grindler, who got the start in goal, was impressive as she made five saves in over 73 minutes of play in net for UC.

The Lady Bulldogs are now idle until the beginning of the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament, which will start next week. Stay tuned to as information becomes available.
