DAYTON, Tenn. - The Union volleyball team dropped a 3-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference contest to host Bryan (Tenn.) on Thursday.

The Lady Lions took the match by the scores of 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18

The loss drops Union to 13-15 overall and 9-4 in conference play. Bryan is now 22-8 overall and 11-1 in the AAC.

Caity Merritt paced Union with 13 kills with Christa Hicks adding 10. Merritt also had four total blocks, including two solo blocks. Brooke Porter recorded a season-high 27 digs, while Gabrielle Kelly had 22.

After dropping the first set 25-18, Union bounced back to take the second frame 25-21. The Lady Bulldogs led 21-19 in the third set, but the Lady Lions rallied and claimed six of the final seven points to win it 25-22 for a 2-1 match lead.

The play was tight in the fourth set until Bryan used a 10-0 run to turn a 14-14 tie into a 24-14 advantage. Union reeled off four straight points, but Bryan scored the match winner off a Carolyn Evans kills to take the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

Union returns to action Tuesday when it plays host to Virginia Intermont at 6:30 p.m.
