BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union football seniors Rob Brown and Mike Beard were named NAIA Athletes of the Week by Beyond Sports Network for their outstanding performances in the 37-14 win over Bluefield (Va.), the organization announced.

The Bulldog duo put together solid outings in helping Union pick up its third win of the season.

Brown, a running back from Daytona, Fla., tallied 205 all-purpose yards as he became the second player in program history to amass over 4,000 career all-purpose yards. He currently has 4,179 to his credit and trails on Kevin Bradshaw's mark of 4,782.

On Saturday, Brown rushed for 87 yards on 11 carries, caught three passes for 23 yards and a touchdown, and returned a kickoff 95 yards for another score. In addition, he became the 21st player to compile 60 receptions in a career. Brown is tied for 20th all-time with 61 catches for 775 yards and six touchdowns. He ranks as the program's fourth all-time leading rusher with 2,459.

Beard, a defensive lineman from Sparr, Fla., recorded only four tackles in Saturday's win, but all four were sacks. The four sacks went for a loss of 18 yards as Beard was a half sack away from tying the program's single-game record.

For the season, Beard leads the Mid-South Conference with a 1.6 sacks per game average. He has 6.5 sacks and 11 total stops this season, and 11 career sacks and 32 career tackles.

Union is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the MSC East. The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they pay Cumberland (Tenn.) a visit. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
