MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - A first half goal by Milligan's (Tenn.) Jacklyn Orange was the difference, as the Union College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in Appalachian Athletic Conference play in muddy conditions on Saturday.

With the loss, UC fell to 6-2-1 overall, 3-1-1 in the AAC, while Milligan improved to 6-4-1, 3-1-1 in the AAC with the victory.

In the first half, Milligan scored the game's lone goal just one minute and 21 seconds into the contest. Orange snuck a shot past UC goalie Stephanie Burton into the net, unassisted, to give Milligan a one-score lead.

From there, the Milligan defense stymied the UC offense the rest of the half, as the Lady Buffaloes held the one goal lead at intermission despite Union outshooting them 8-5 in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, it was more of the same, as Milligan goalie Lauren McInturff stopped both shots UC fired on net. Midfielder Aline Dalmedico did all she could in trying to get Union on the board, taking 11 of Union's 13 shots on the field for the day, five of which were on net.

Dalmedico's efforts, however, went unrewarded, as Milligan hung on for the shutout AAC victory at home.

Overall, Union ended up outshooting Milligan 13-11 despite losing the match, while Milligan held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks. In net, Burton kept the Lady Bulldogs in it all day after giving up the early goal, ending the afternoon with four saves.

The Lady Bulldogs return to the pitch on Wednesday, when they continue their road trip at Cumberland (Tenn.). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EST.
