LEBANON, Tenn. - Senior Brooke Porter recorded her 1,000th career dig Friday as the Union volleyball team went 1-1 during the first day of play at the Cumberland (Tenn.) University Classic.

The Louisville, Ky., native reached the milestone during the 3-0 victory over Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) as she posted 13. Porter added seven in the 3-0 loss to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) to put her at 1,012 for her career.

With the split, Union is 7-9 overall. The Lady Bulldogs will resume play Saturday at 11 a.m. Central when it takes on Webber International (Fla.). Union will wrap up the classic with a 3 p.m. Central date versus Martin Methodist (Tenn.).

In the first match, Union rolled through the first set, but Lindenwood-Belleville put up a fight in the final two sets as the Lady Bulldogs won 25-12, 26-24, 25-23.

Paige Moore led Union with 12 kills with Cat Neumann helping out with 10. Caity Merritt posted six kills and three total blocks. Both Chandler Gray and Heather Fields each had 16 assists.

Union looked to be on its way to a set one win against Freed-Hardeman as it was up 24-21. However, Freed-Hardeman reeled off five straight points to take the opening frame 26-24.

From there, the Lady Lions controlled the match and took the next two sets 25-20 an 25-17.

Hollie Hopkins and Merritt led Union with eight kills apiece. Hopkins also posted three total blocks. Gray helped out with 15 assists and eight digs.
