LONDON, Ky. - The Union men's and women's golf teams began the 2012 fall season Thursday with solid opening rounds at the Bill Sergent Invitational at the Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky.

The Bulldogs are currently tied for seventh in a field of 15 teams, while the Lady Bulldogs are fifth in an eight-team field.

The Union men posted an 11-over, 299 team score to put them 10 strokes back of first-place Southern Wesleyan (S.C.), which fired a team score of 289. Lee (Tenn.) is second at 293, while Cumberlands (Ky.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) are tied for third as both shot a 294. Milligan (Tenn.) and SCAD-Atlanta (Ga.) are each tied for fifth at 298, with Union and Campbellsville both sitting in seventh place.

Brady Sharkey and Thomas Scott lead the Bulldogs with a 2-over, 74 to place them in a tie for 19th overall. Cumberlands' Alastair Tidcombe leads the way with a 2-under, 70.

The Lady Bulldogs posted a team score of 350 to land fifth overall, while Cumberlands leads the way with a 303. Lee is second at 313 with Lindsey Wilson third at 330 and Milligan fourth at 349.

Brittany Zins and Ashley Buxton pace Union with a 12-over, 85 to put them in a tie for 17th place. Cumberlands' Liz Stephens leads the pack with a 4-under, 69.

The final round will tee off Friday morning.
