BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College cycling head coach Peter Haile has announced that Steven Bingham, a Barbourville native, has signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Bulldog program this fall.

The signing is the first for Haile since he took over the head coaching reigns at Union earlier this month.

"We're excited to have Steven join the squad," said Haile. "With his extensive local knowledge of the trails he will be a valuable addition to the team."

Bingham prepped at Knox Central High School in Barbourville, graduating last month. He is the son of Wayne and Jean Bingham.

Union is a two-time NCAA Division II national champion program, most recently capturing the 2011 title. In all, the Bulldogs boast eight individual national champions and have posted 10 top-five team finishes at nationals since the program began in 1998. Since 2000, Union has placed no worse than ninth at nationals.
