BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College men's swimmer Louis Glavinos Jr. captured an event, and finished in the top four in another, at the 2012 U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals, which took place from April 26-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Glavinos Jr. won the 50-back at the event in his age class (18-24) with a time of 24.31, and finished fourth in the 100-back after hitting the wall in 52.76. He also competed in the 50-free, and placed 16th in 22.77.

"It was a great meet with a lot of awesome swims," said Glavinos Jr.  "We met some great people, and we both felt like we met our goals for that meet. Now, we just have to start preparing for next year."

Glavinos Jr. was joined at the meet by UC swimming assistant coach Matthew Moon, who finished 7th in the 50-breast (27.05) in his age class (25-29). Moon also placed 10th in the 100-breast in 58.84, and 21st in the 100-IM in 57.46.

"There were over 1800 swimmers at the meet, ranging from Olympic gold medalists to beginners," said Moon. "But, they were all there to have fun, which gave the meet such a good atmosphere. After taking a couple years off, it was nice to get back in the water and compete in such a large meet at a top of the line facility and post some good times."

"I am very happy for Paschal and Coach Moon," said UC head coach Rafael Forti.  "They swam very well. Paschal has proved once again that he is one of the best backstrokers the NAIA has, and coach Moon had a great showing, as well.

"Both have practiced diligently since the season was over, and they are very deserving of such honors."
