BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College men's soccer coach Tyler Brock has announced that Joe Butcher, a native of Isle of Wight, England, will join the Bulldog program for the start of the 2012 season this fall.

Butcher, who can play both in the midfield and at forward, transfers into Union from Burlington Community College in Burlington, N.J.

"Joe is every exciting player to watch and I am very eager to see what he brings to our program," said Brock. "He loves to run at people and take them on. Joe is one of those players that wants to get in behind the back line and go at goal. He can also play up top as a striker, even though at his junior college he has been used as an outside midfielder.

"Joe gives us a lot of options.  He has good size and good pace.  He is a very aggressive player and very smart on the ball."

At Burlington C.C. this past season, Butcher played in 22 games, scoring nine goals, while recording two assists in the midfield.

Butcher has also played with Cowes Sports F.C. in his native Isle of Wight, where he has scored over 20 goals. One of Butcher's teammates on Cowes Sports F.C. was current Bulldog midfielder Chris Elliott, who also hails from Isle of Wight.

In high school, Butcher also ran track, and ran the 100-meter dash in 11 seconds.

The Bulldogs, members of the NAIA and the Appalachian Athletic Conference, finished last season with a 10-7-2 overall mark.
