KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The Union College softball team saw its 2012 season come to a close on Thursday, as Tennessee Wesleyan eliminated the Lady Bulldogs from the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-1 victory at Domtar Park.

With the defeat, Union ends the season with a 27-17 overall record, while TWC went to 22-21 with the victory.

In the game, TWC got off on the right foot against UC starter Katie Perkins, scoring a run in the top of the first after lead-off batter Brooke Ward tripled, and was knocked home on a fielders choice to make it a 1-0 game.

In a pitchers duel, Union finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, as Abby Sears knocked home Gina Loflin on an RBI single to knot things up at one-all after four. TWC, however, came right back in the top half of the fifth to take the lead, scoring a lone run to go up 2-1.

In the sixth, Union couldn't cash in on what turned out to be their final chance in the game, as they failed to capitalize on lead-off hits by Sears and Loflin, stranding two on base. In the top of the seventh, TWC scored a run to go up two, then retired Union in order in the bottom of the seventh to move on in the tournament.

Overall, Sears went 2-for-3 with an RBI in her final game in a UC uniform, while Ashley Wojnowski was also 2-for-3, as well. In the circle, Perkins (7-5) took the hard luck loss, giving up just two runs on three hits in a little over of four innings work.
