ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Union College softball team will enter the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament as the number-five seed, opening up play against fourth-seeded Virginia Intermont on Tuesday at Domtar Park in Kingsport, Tenn.

The Lady Bulldogs, who finished the regular season with a 26-15 overall record, and a 10-8 mark in the AAC, will take on the Lady Cobras (who finished 21-26 overall and 12-6 in the AAC) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning.  The teams split a doubleheader in their regular season matchup at VI on Mar. 26, with UC winning game one in eight innings, 2-1, and VI taking game two 9-1 in five innings. 

Overall, Tennessee Wesleyan, Milligan (Tenn.) and Reinhardt (Ga.) were the AAC regular-season tri-champions. Due to a tie-breaker system, Tennessee Wesleyan is the No. 1 seed, Milligan the No. 2 seed, and Reinhardt the No. 3 seed. 

The tournament is an eight-team, double-elimination format. The No. 8 and No. 9 seeded teams will will play a single-elimination contest to begin the tournament (9 a.m. on Tuesday) to determine the final team in the eight-team field.
