ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Union College senior catcher Gina Loflin was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's softball Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 25, the league announced today.

The announcement marks the second consecutive week a member of the Lady Bulldogs has captured the Player of the Week award, as Aryssa Puckett won it last week.

This past week, Loflin (Salisbury, N.C.) posted a .417 batting average with six runs scored, leading the Lady Bulldogs to a even 2-2 week.

Her top performance of the week came in a DH against Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday, where she went 4-for-7 combined in two games, knocking home six RBI.

In game one, Loflin smacked two home runs, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored. The two home run day was the first for a Lady Bulldog player since 2010. She followed up that performance in game two, where she went 1-for-3 with another home run to push her total on the afternoon to three.

On the year, Loflin is batting .443, which is the fourth highest mark in the entire AAC. She also leads the team in slugging percentage (.836), doubles (12), home runs (4), and RBI (18). Behind the plate, Loflin has been just as impressive, as she has thrown out five of the six runners who have tried to steal a base on her. She has also not committed an error on the year, as well.

Union, 16-5 on the year and 2-2 in the AAC, play three DH's on the road this week, beginning this afternoon at Virginia Intermont.
