ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Union College senior center Josh Hurd was named to the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Basketball Third Team, which was announced by the league this evening.
Hurd, a native of Independence, Ky., led the Bulldogs throughout the season in the middle. Overall, he ended the year averaging 10.9 points a contests, pulling down a team-high seven rebounds a game, while blocking a team-high 38 shots. He also finished the season with seven double-doubles, all of which occurred in the final 11 games of the year. 

Hurd was also honored for his work in the classroom, as he earned a spot on the AAC Academic All-Conference Team. Junior guard James Strange (Pineville, Ky.) was also honored as he earned a spot on the Academic All-Conference Team to join Hurd.

As a team, Union was awarded the NAIA Champion of Character award from the conference, as well.

Overall, Bluefield's Byron Carpenter was named the AAC Player of the Year, with Tennessee Wesleyan's E'Jay Ward earning defensive player of the year honors, and Bryan's Dion Fair taking the Freshman of the Year award. Rounding out the individual awards, TWC's Mike Poe was named AAC Coach of the Year.
