DAYTON, Tenn. - No. 25 Union surged late to overcome an 11-point deficit to pull out the 74-68 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory at Bryan (Tenn.) on Saturday.

The win clinches the No. 2 seed for the Lady Bulldogs (22-7 overall, 13-5 AAC) in the upcoming conference tournament. Union will open play Wednesday when it hosts No. 7 seed Reinhardt (Ga.) at 7 p.m.

Despite leading 36-32 at the half, Union sputtered for much of the second half and found itself trailing 57-46 with 7:39 to play. The Lady Bulldogs' offense began to pick up, yet they were still down 63-53 at the 5:33 mark.

Union then went on a 16-2 run to take a 69-65 lead with 27 seconds to play. Lindsey Waters (Stearns, Ky.) scored six points during the rally.

Anna Thomas drained a 3-pointer to pull Bryan within one with 17 seconds to play. But Morgan Burnette was called for a foul and Bryan coach Jason Smith was hit with a technical. Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) hit all four free throws to put Union up 73-68. Waters added a free throw late in the game, making the final 74-68.

The loss puts Bryan at 14-15 overall and 5-13 in the AAC.

Waters paced Union with her 18th double-double of the season as she recorded 23 points and 12 rebounds. Alyson Roberts (Baxter, Tenn.) added 16 points with Laura Perkins (Myra, Ky.) chipping in 14.

For Bryan, Sara Barnett led the way with 16 points, while Burnette had 14 and Thomas netted 13. Bethany McArthur contributed 12 points.
