BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College center Josh Hurd scored 17 points to lead the way, as the Bulldogs knocked off Milligan (Tenn.), 72-56, in AAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at Robsion Arena.

The game, which was the home season finale for Union, was also the team's senior night, as six members of the team were honored before tip-off. They were: Hurd (Independence, Ky.), Brent Cork (Saginaw, Mich.), Ian Davis (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Stefan Juzbasic (Belgrade, Serbia), Carlos Sanford (Durham, N.C.), and Will Bland (Louisville, Ky.).

With the victory, UC improved to 7-21 overall, 4-10 in the AAC, while Milligan fell to 9-15, 5-9 in the AAC with the loss

In the first half, Union took their first lead of the night at the 17-minute mark (3-2) and did not to relinquish it the rest of the game. Milligan did keep in close through the first 10 minutes, however,  as the Bulldogs held a 13-11 lead with 10:16 left in the period.

Here, UC went on a 10-0 run that gave them a big 23-11 lead with 6:47 left, that was capped by a James Strange (Pineville, Ky.) lay-in. Union continued to hold off the Buffaloes the rest of the half, and took their biggest lead with 1:08 left (33-19) on a Juzbasic three.

As the half came to a close, Milligan made a shot from half-court at the buzzer, but UC still held a 35-25 lead going into intermission.

To start the second half, Milligan came out of the locker room and cut the UC lead down to six points (37-31) in the first three minutes of play. The Bulldogs, however, quickly extinguished the Buffalo run, and went back up by double-digits, holding a 44-33 lead with 12 minutes left.

The rest of the way, Union coasted. Eventually, the Bulldogs extended the lead out to 20 points (64-44) with five minutes left, a deficit proved too large for Milligan to come back from, as UC ended their home season with a convincing 16-point win.

Overall, Hurd led the way for the Bulldogs in his final game at home, getting to 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Other double-digit scorers on the night for Union included Ryan Young (Waynesburg, Ky.), who had 12 points, and Davis, who notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For Milligan, Kyle Grisby led the Buffaloes in a losing effort, scoring a game-high 18 points. The Buffaloes were hampered all night long by poor shooting, as they ended the night shooting just 35 percent from the field.

Union is now off for the week, and returns to action next Wednesday night, Feb. 15, when they travel to Point (Ga.). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
