MONTREAT, N.C. - Mykiea Russell hit a jumper at the buzzer to send host No. 13 Montreat (N.C.) to a 65-63 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over No. 19 Union on Thursday.

In what was a back-and-forth affair, the game boiled down to who had the ball last. Unfortunately for Union, Montreat had that opportunity.

Down 61-58, Kathryn Clark (Frankfort, Ky.) hit a pair of free throws to pull Union within one with 52 seconds to play. Russell countered with a bucket with 26 seconds left to push the Lady Cavaliers up 63-60.

Following a timeout, the Lady Bulldogs pulled even with Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) drained a 3-pointer with 12 seconds to play. But that was too much time for Montreat to win it regulation as Russell scored the game-winner as time expired, giving Montreat the 65-63 decision.

The loss is Union's second in a row as it is now 11-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Montreat improves to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the AAC.

After being held to four points in the first half, Lindsey Waters (Stearns, Ky.) finished with a her 10th double-double of the season with a team-best 17 points and 11 rebounds. Pile posted 15 points with Clark adding 10.

Ebony Battle paced Montreat with 19 points, while Russell and Kaitlyn Clontz each chipped in 11.
