KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Union's Lindsey Waters has been named the first NAIA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week of the 2011-12 season, the national office announced Tuesday. Waters was selected based on her performances from Dec. 26 - Jan. 1 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Waters spurred the 19th-ranked Bulldogs to wins over No. 25 Indiana Southeast and Pikeville (Ky.) over the past week. She filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the 76-62 win over Indiana Southeast on Dec. 29. She followed that effort up with 28 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and four blocks in Union's 72-69 victory over Pikeville on Dec. 30.

The 6-foot-1 junior center from Stearns, Ky., ranks in the top five of the NAIA in several categories. She ranks second with 11.8 rebounds per game, third with 2.9 blocks and fifth with a 21.6 scoring average. Waters now has nine double-doubles in 13 games.

Union is 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Lady Bulldogs play host to Reinhardt (Ga.) in conference play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
