ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Lindsey Waters is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, making the fourth time this season the Union center has won the award.
Waters helped the 19th-ranked Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last week, including a 14-point win over No. 25 Indiana Southeast. Union is 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the AAC.
On the week, the Stearns, Ky., native averaged 23.5 points per game and 12 rebounds per game in helping Union to back-to-back victories. Waters also had seven assists, six blocks and three steals. She posted her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season. Waters currently has recorded five double-doubles in a row.
Against IU Southeast, Waters posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in the 76-62 victory. She added four assists and two blocks for good measure. She helped the Lady Bulldogs overcome an 18-point deficit to defeat NAIA Division I Pikeville (Ky.) 72-69 with a 28-point, 14-rebound performance. Waters also chipped in four blocks, three assists and two steals.
She finished the week going 18-for-19 at the free-throw line and made 14-of-29 shots from the floor.
Waters leads the conference in scoring (21.6 points per game), rebounding (11.85) and blocks (2.92). She ranks second in NAIA Division II in defensive rebounds per game (7.923) and total rebounds per game, third in blocks per game, and fifth in points per game and total blocks (38).
Union returns to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Reinhardt (Ga.) in conference play. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
