ATHENS, Tenn. - Junior transfer Lindsey Waters posted a double-double in her Lady Bulldog debut, but it wasn't enough to lift Union to victory as Brenau (Ga.) pulled out the 51-49 victory at the Tennessee Wesleyan College Classic on Friday.
Waters (Stearns, Ky.) scored a team-high 15 points while pulling down a game-high 18 rebounds. Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) was the only other Lady Bulldog to crack double digits, netting 10 points.
Union (0-1 overall) led 25-24 at the half, but Brenau posted a 27-24 edge in the second half to nab the two-point victory.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well. Brenau made only 27.4 percent (17 of 62 shots) from the field and hit just 3-of-14 from 3-point range. The Golden Tigers (3-0 overall) also missed half (14 of 28) of their free throws. Meanwhile, Union went 19-for-58 (32.8 percent) from the floor and 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from behind the arc. At the foul line, the Lady Bulldogs shot 53.3 percent (9 of 17).
Brenau's Brittany Wiley led all scorers with 18 points and was the only Golden Tiger to score in double figures. Brenau also outrebounded Union 46-43 on the glass.
