DAYTON, Tenn. -- The number four seeded Bryan men's soccer team scored five consecutive goals in the second half to pull away from fifth seeded Union College, 8-3, in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday night.

With the loss, Union's 2011 season comes to an end, as the Bulldogs conclude the year with a 10-7-2 overall mark. Bryan improved to 11-7-1 with the win, and moves on to next week's AAC Tournament semifinals.

In the first half, Union was quick to strike, as Jonathan Watson (Kirriemuir, Scotland) scored in the third minute to make the score 1-0, Bulldogs. The score was the ninth of the season for the freshman.

Bryan quickly tied the match up at one in the eighth minute, then took a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute on a Harry Sherwood goal. Union, however, tied the game back up at two in the 36th minute, as Chris Elliott (Isle of Wight, England) scored his eighth goal of the year to knot the match back up.

The game remained tied throughout the rest of the first half, as both team went into the intermission all tied up at two goals apiece.

To start the second half, Bryan came out and took the lead right back, scoring a goal 42 seconds into the period to go back up 3-2. Union, however, answered just as quickly, as Christian Jauregui (Mount Sterling, Ky.) scored his fifth goal of the year almost a minute later to tie the game back up at 3-3.

It was here that Bryan began their scoring barrage, taking the lead back in the 58th minute. The Lions then took the lead for good in the 72nd minute on a goal from Harry Sherwood that made it 5-3, Bryan. 

The Lions than added insurance goals later in the 72nd minute, in the 80th minute, and in the 85th minute to pull away from the Bulldogs, and coast to a five-goal win.

Overall, Bryan outshot Union 22-5 in the match, including a 16-1 ledger in the second half, while also holding a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. Union goalie Andrew Metcalf (Chester, England) made eight saves in net in a losing effort for the Bulldogs on the night.
