BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Shorter's (Ga.) big play ability was too much for Union on Saturday as the visiting Hawks posted a 42-16 Mid-South Conference West victory.

The loss drops Union to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in MSC West play, while Shorter improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Shorter failed to score on its opening possession, but it found the end zone on its next four drives and needed eight total plays. The Hawks scored on runs of 66, 42, 91 and 84 yards to jump out to a 28-0 lead with 4:48 to play in the second quarter.

Union made it 28-3 at the half thanks to a Chad Boyington (Stockbridge, Ga.) 31-yard field goal.

Midway through the third, Union nearly found the end zone but was stopped on the 1 where it turned the ball over on downs. Shorter then pieced together a 14-play, 99-yard drive, capped off by a David Byrd 1-yard plunge to make it 35-3 with 1:17 to go in the third.

Early in the fourth, Ryan Moses (Williamsburg, Ky.) found Rolando Dyer (Lawrenceburg, Ga.) in the end zone for a 9-yard strike to make it a 35-10 contest with 13:51 remaining.

After a 31-yard touchdown pass to Shorter's Collin Wooddy made it a 32-point game again, Moses tossed his second touchdown pass of the game when he hit Frantzy Sejour (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) from 8-yards out. The PAT was blocked, making the final 42-16.

Shorter outgained Union 534-381 in total offense even though Union reeled off 31 more (77-46) offensive plays. The Hawks racked up 503 yards rushing with C.J. Scott piling up 102 and a touchdown on six carries. Brandon Morton and Caleb Collins each had 84 yards rushing.

For Union, Moses had a solid, all-around day as he completed 17-of-31 passes for 210 yards and two scores. He also rushed for a career-high 73 yards on a 22 attempts. Rob Brown (Daytona, Fla.) collected 75 yards rushing to give him 881 on the year, leaving him 119 shy of the 1,000-yard mark with one game to go.

Dyer caught four passes for 32 yards and a touchdown, giving him 76 career receptions to put in 14th place all-time. Sterlin James (Citra, Fla.) pulled down five receptions for 73 yards.

Union will close out the season on the road as it will visit Faulkner (Ala.) next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
