BEREA, Ky. -- Junior Chris Elliott scored three goals to record a hat trick, leading the Union College men's soccer team to a 4-0 win at Berea on Saturday.

With the win, Union improved to 9-6-2 overall, and extended their winning streak to four games. Berea fell to 3-9 on the year with the loss.

"This was a good win for us today," said head coach Tyler Brock. "We attacked well right from the start, and we were very patient with the ball. I'm happy because it looks like we're peaking just at the right time as a team."

In the first half, Union was fast to strike, as Elliott (Isle of Wight, England) scored his first goal of the day in the fourth minute. Senior Marc Miller (Winchester, Ky.) recorded an assist on the play, as Union took an early 1-0 lead.

Elliott then scored his second goal later in the half, as he played a deflected shot by Christian Jauregui (Mount Sterling, Ky.) into the back of the net, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs ended the half on a high note, as Chris Riley (Cornwall, England) scored from 14 yards out off a Jaruegui cross. The score, which was the third of the year for the senior, gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead going into the half.

In the second half, Union scored the final goal of the day in the 47th minute, when RIley completed the hat trick after successfully converting a penalty kick, scoring his seventh goal of the year. The Bulldogs then coasted the rest of the period, easily taking the four-score victory.

Overall, Union outshot Berea 22-10 in the match, while in net, Andrew Metcalf (Chester, England) and Madison Justice (Morehead, Ky.) split time, making six combined saves to preserve the shutout.

Union returns to the pitch on Wednesday when they travel to Virginia Intermont in the team's regular season finale. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
