BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union University  took an early lead, and never looked back, as they shutout Union College, 4-0, in NAIA women's soccer action at Burch/Nau Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Union College fell to 8-6 on the year, while Union University improved to 8-2-2 on the season with the victory.

In the first half, Union University came out of the gates aggressively, scoring their first goal 51 seconds into the match, as Eboni Murphy scored from four yards out, giving the visiting Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead right off the bat.

The lead would hold up over the remainder of the period, as the visiting Lady Bulldog had a one-score lead a the half. UC goalie Stephanie Burton (Queensland, Australia) kept the host Lady Bulldogs in it for the first 45 minutes, stopping four shots in the period. 

In the second half, Union University scored three goals to coast to the four-score win.

In the 59th minute, Becky McDonough scored on a free kick from 25 yards out to make it 2-0, then in the 79th minute, Alex Taylor scored on a header off a corner kick to make it 3-0. The last goal of the day was tallied in the 80h minute, as Terilyn Wassell scored from five yards out, solidifying the visiting Lady Bulldogs' convincing road win.

Overall, Union University outshot UC 14-11 in the match, and held a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks. Union University goalie Emily Warren earned the shutout win in net, making seven saves on the day. For the home Lady Bulldogs, Sofie Jorgensen (Oksbol, Denmark) took the most shots on the day with five (four of which were on goal). 

Before the match, five Union College seniors were honored in the team's annual senior day ceremonies. They were Stephanie Cagle (Independence, Ky.), Chelsi Walls (Stanford, Ky.), Nikki Jeck (Berea, Ky.), Olivia Brock (Hebron, Ky.), and Kristina Kirk (Versailles, Ky.).

The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Cincinnati Christian for another out-of-conference match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
