BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College seniors Patrick O'Neal and Joey Waters put an exclamation point on their careers as they were named Mid-South Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.

O'Neal (Lula, Ga.) and Waters (McDonough, Ga.) helped Union to a 28-21 victory over host and then-No. 17 Georgetown (Ky.) College Saturday, snapping a 23-game losing streak to the Tigers. The Bulldogs last defeated Georgetown in 1938.

Union ended the season with a 4-7 overall record and a 2-3 MSC East mark.

O'Neal tied the school record for most tackles in a game with 20 stops. Ironically, he began the season with a 20-tackle performance against University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). He and John Fey are the only players in Bulldog history to notch 20 tackles in a game.

The 6-foot-1 linebacker also had 2.5 tackles for a loss of 26 yards and 2.0 sacks.

With the 20-tackle performance, O'Neal shattered the single-season record as he ended the year with 143. John Luttrell had held the mark at 135 since the 1985 season. O'Neal nearly bested Luttrell's career record of 392, but he came up two shy of equaling the mark as he wrapped up his career with 390.

Waters registered his fifth in a row - sixth on the year, 300-yard passing performance. He completed 22-of-38 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns. He had a hand in all four of Union's scores has he ran for 5 yards and a score on 10 carries. Waters finished the season having completed 253-of-422 passes for 3,216 yards and 27 touchdowns - all single-season records.

The 5-foot-11 quarterback finished his career owning or sharing 11 school passing records. Waters is the program's all-time leading passer with 7,880 yards and 66 touchdowns on 652-of-1150 passing.

This is the fourth time this season Waters has been named the MSC Offensive Player of the Week.
