BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Tennessee Wesleyan's Abby Fannin recorded a hat trick, as the visiting Lady Bulldogs scored four second half goals to pull away from Union College, 5-1, in Appalachian Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday at Burch/Nau Field.

With the loss, Union fell to 8-5 on the year, 3-3 in the AAC, while Tennessee Wesleyan improved to 8-7-1 overall, 4-1-1 in the AAC with the victory. The defeat also snapped a four-match winning streak for UC.

In the first half, most of the period was scoreless, as both teams failed to capitalize on chances in front of the net.

In the 40th minute, however, TWC finally cashed in, when Fannin scored her first goal of the day from 15 yards out. The 1-0 lead would hold up over the final five minutes of the period for the visiting Lady Bulldogs, as they went into the locker room at intermission up a goal.

In the second half, Union quickly tied things up, as sophomore Sofie Jorgensen (Oksbol, Denmark) scored her 12th goal of the season, unassisted, from 10 yards out in the 47th minute. Just two minutes into the second half, UC had tied things up at one apiece.

From this point forward, TWC controlled the match, scoring four consecutive goals to coast to a convincing win.

Fannin scored her second goal of the contest in the 73rd minute from 15 yards out to give TWC a 2-1 lead, then completed the hat trick in the 78th minute when she scored from 10 yards out, making it 3-1.

The visiting Lady Bulldogs added two more goals with under 10 minutes left to put a seal on the win, as Britten Fandrich scored in the 82nd minute, while Courtney Strickland added the games last goal with four seconds remaining in regulation, giving Tennessee Wesleyan the four-goal win.

Overall, Tennessee Wesleyan outshot Union 17-13 overall, while Union held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks. Union goalie Stephanie Burton (Queensland, Australia) took the loss in net, but still made six saves overall on the afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they step out of the AAC to take on Union University at Burch/Nau Field. The match, which is also the squad's senior day, kicks off at 2 p.m.
