ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Union College's Kayse Cornett has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16, the league announced Monday.

Cornett (London, Ky.), a freshman, led the Lady Bulldog defensive unit in a 2-1 win over Montreat on Saturday. After allowing an early goal, Cornett and the rest of the Lady Bulldog defensive held Montreat scoreless over the rest of the match, as the Lady Cavlaliers took just two shots the entire second half.

For the year, Cornett has played in 10 matches, making a start on defense in nine of those contests.

Cornett and the rest of the Lady Bulldogs return to the pitch tomorrow when they host Tennessee Wesleyan in an AAC bout. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Burch/Nau Field.
