BARBOURVILLE, Ky. --
Junior Chris Elliott
scored two goals in the second half to elevate the Union College men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Montreat in AAC action on Saturday at Burch/Nau Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 7-6-2, 1-3-1 in the AAC, while Montreat fell to 5-7, 1-4 in the AAC with the loss.
In the first period, UC was first to crack the scoreboard, as Jonathan Watson
(Kirriemuir, Scotland) scored his team-high eighth goal of the season off an assist from Chris Riley
(Cornwall, England) from seven yards out. The score gave the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead.
Montreat would tie it up in the 21st minute, when Maximillano Viera scored unassisted, making it 1-1. The score remained tied the remainder of the half, as both team went into the intermission knotted up at a goal apiece.
In the second half, Union controlled the pace of play throughout to pull away from the visiting Cavaliers.
In the 60th minute, Elliott scored the eventual game-winner after an aggressive attack by the Bulldogs. Eliott first fired a shot on net, but that shot was saved. He was, however, given a second chance when the save ricocheted back to him right in front of the net. He wouldn't miss on the second chance, and scored a goal, giving Union a 2-1 lead.
Elliott then added an insurance goal in the 80th minute, off an assist from Jamie Cozens
(Southampton, England), giving Union an insurmountable two-goal lead. The score was the fourth of the season for Riley, who doubled his goal total for the year in the match.
Overall, Union outshot Montreat 18-7 in the match (12-3 in the second half), and had an 8-6 edge on corner kicks. Bulldog goalie Andrew Metcalf

Also, before the match, the Union men's soccer program honored their 2011 senior class. The members of the class are Riley, Marc Miller

Union returns to the pitch on Tuesday when they host Tennessee Wesleyan in an AAC tilt. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Burch/Nau Field.
