ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Union College's Andrew Metcalf was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week the league announced Monday.

Metcalf (Chester, England), a freshman, wins the Defensive Player of the Week award for the second time in three weeks. 

The goalkeeper earned this week's award after an impressive outing in Union's lone match on the week at Bryan on Wednesday, a 2-2 double overtime draw. In the tie, Metcalf made eight saves in 110 minutes of action, stopping four shots alone in the two overtime periods. 

For the season, Metcalf has made 82 saves overall, and has recorded a 1.59 goals against average.

The Bulldogs, 5-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the AAC,  return to the pitch on Saturday when they host Montreat in an AAC tilt. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Burch/Nau Field.
