DAYTON, Tenn. -- Union College's Helen Weber scored the game winner in the 86th minute, lifting the Lady Bulldogs to a thrilling 1-0 win over host Bryan in Appalachian Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, Union improved to 7-4 on the year, 2-2 in the AAC, while Bryan fell to 3-8-1, 0-4  in the AAC with the loss. Also with the win, the Lady Bulldogs have posted a three-match winning streak.

In the first half, Union was aggressive on the offensive end from the start, firing seven shots in the period compared to just three by Bryan.

Lady Lion goalie Stephanie Gagnon, however, stopped all five shots that were on goal in the period.  Meanwhile, Union goalie Stephanie Burton (Queensland, Australia) stopped two shots, as the match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes.

It was more of the same in the second half, despite the Lady Bulldogs' steady agressiveness on net. Gagnon was even more impressive in between the pipes in the second stanza, stopping seven total shots in the half.

With four minutes left in regulation, the Lady Bulldogs finally mounted a successful attack against Gagnon, as Weber (Marburg, Germany) put a shot into the net off a pass from Stephanie Cagle (Independence, Ky.). The goal was the ninth of the season for the freshman Weber, and her third game-winner. Meanwhile, Cagle notched her fourth assist of the year on the play.

Overall, Union outshot Bryan 18-5 in the contest, while Bryan held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Burton earned the hard-fought victory in net for the Lady Bulldogs, recording her second shutout of the season after making four saves in the match. Gagnon, despite losing the match, was dazzling in net, ending the night with 12 total saves.

Union is now idle until Oct. 15 when they host Montreat in the team's annual homecoming match. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Bulldog Field.
