PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Union College's Damian Hobson scored the game winner in the 75th minute, as the Bulldogs defeated host Pikeville, 3-2, in NAIA men's soccer action at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

With the victory, Union improved to 5-5-1 on the season, while Pikeville fell to 3-5 with the loss.

In the opening half, Pikeville was first to strike, as Abba Baptiste scored an unassisted goal in the 15th minute to give the Bears the early 1-0 lead.

This lead was, however, short lived, as the Bulldogs notched their first goal of the contest in the 21st minute when Jonathan Watson (Kirriemuir, Scotland) scored. The goal, which was assisted by Jamie Cozens (Southampton, England), was the fourth of the season for the freshman, and knotted the game at one.

In the 38th minute, Union took their first lead of the night when Watson scored again, this time unassisted. The goal, the fifth of the season for Watson, gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead going into the locker room for intermission.

In the second half, Union had chances on net right away, but it was Pikeville who was next to score, as Lekealem Nkengafac scored an unassited goal in the 60th minute to knot the game up at two.

This set up the stage for Hobson's (Dayton, Ohio) match winner, which occured at 75:26. The goal, which was unassisted and the third of the season for Hobson, gave the Bulldogs a late one-goal lead. Union then proceeded to hang on over the final 15 minutes of the match to record a hard-fought, out-of-conference, road win.

Overall, Union outshot Pikeville 20-8, while both teams had four corner kicks, apiece. Union goalie, and reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Week Andrew Metcalf (Chester, England) earned the win in net, making five saves overall in the victory.

Union returns to the pitch on Saturday when the travel to Bluefield for an AAC tilt. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
