ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Union College goal keeper Andrew Metcalf has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 25, the league announced on Monday.

Metcalf (Chester, England), a freshman, paced the Bulldogs to a 1-1 mark last week to bump their overall record on the year to 4-5-1. Union defeated Georgetown at home on Wednesday, 5-2, then dropped a heartbreaker on the road at Milligan, 3-2, on Saturday.

Against Georgetown, Metcalf made four saves in the UC's three-goal out-of-conference win. Verses Milligan, Metcalf was very impressive in a losing effort, as the freshman kept Union in it all match, making seven saves total on the night.

For the season, Metcalf has made 64 total saves - which is an AAC high - while posting a goals against average of 1.54, the third lowest mark in the league.

The Union men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Thursday night for an non-conference tilt at Pikeville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
