CINCINNATI -- Senior Marc Miller scored twice, as the Union College men's soccer team scored four second half goals to shutout Cincinnati Christian, 5-0, on Wednesday night. The Match was played at Xavier University.

With the win, Union improved to 3-3-1 on the year, and have now won back-to-back matches. Cincinnati Christian fell to 0-5 with the loss.

In the first half, Union came out aggressive, as Miller (Winchester, Ky.) scored his first goal of the night nine minutes into the match. The Bulldogs, however, were shutout the rest of the period despite having numerous chances on goal, and went into the locker room at halftime up 1-0.

In the second half, the Bulldogs began to cash in on their opportunities on net, and pulled way from the host Eagles. Miller was first to score in the period, making the score 2-0. The goal was his third of the season.

Damian Hobson (Dayton, Ohio) then scored his first goal of the season to make it 3-0, which was followed by a score by Christian Jauregui (Mount Sterling, Ky.), his second of the year, that made it 4-0. Junior Steve Young (Nurenburg, Germany) scored the final goal of the game, his first of the season, thus giving the Bulldogs the dominating 5-goal win.

In the win, the Bulldogs earned their first shutout win of the 2011 season, and their first shutout victory since a 2-0 win over Montreat in the quarterfinals of last season's AAC Tournament. Freshman goalie Andrew Metcalf (Chester, England) also earned the first shutout win of his collegiate career in the triumph.

Union returns to the pitch on Saturday when they host Reinhardt in the squad's AAC season opener.

The Bulldogs will try to exact some revenge with the Eagles in the match, as Reinhardt knocked Union out of the AAC Tournament a season ago. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Burch/Nau Field.
